SABIC Recognized as a ‘Top Employer’ in China for 5th Consecutive Year

On December 19, 2014, SABIC announced it has been recognized as one of China’s ‘Top Employers 2015’, marking the fifth consecutive year the company has been accredited with this accolade. Conferred by the Top Employers Institute, an independent research foundation which recognizes the best employers around the world through its certification programs, SABIC was honored at an official dinner and ceremony hosted by the institute yesterday in Shanghai. SABIC, one of the world’s largest petrochemical companies was also certified among the ‘Top Employers Asia Pacific 2015’ and ‘Top Employers 2015’ in India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
   “In today’s highly dynamic business environment, the need for a robust, skilled and motivated workforce has never been more pressing. Recognizing this, SABIC firmly believes that our employees are one of our most vital assets, with talent development underpinning our long term growth strategy. This re-certification by the Top Employers Institute across the region underscores our resolve to be the industry’s employer of choice, and contributes towards our vision of being the preferred world leader in chemicals,” said Li Lei, Vice President, North Asia, SABIC.
   In addition to being certified in China for the fifth year, SABIC has achieved Top Employer status in The Netherlands for eight consecutive years. The company has also received the regional accolades of ‘Top Employers Asia Pacific’ and ‘Top Employers Europe’ in 2014 – a clear reflection of SABIC’s steadfast commitment to its employees and their professional development. The certification follows a rigorous process including an audit by independent audit, tax and advisory firm Grant Thornton, and comprehensively evaluates the company’s human resource standards and practices against an international benchmark, looking at specific areas of strategy, policy implementation, communication of employee conditions and talent development.
   According to the assessment by the Top Employers Institute, SABIC garnered excellent scores across several employment practices. These include SABIC’s Global Talent Management system, which frames all talent activities, performance management, succession planning, and learning & development, among other areas. This provides a common platform and process globally across its operations, business and corporate functions, forming the key foundations for a common culture.
   Recognition was also given to SABIC’s commitment to nurturing promising talent through selected talent programs that provide opportunities for leadership networking, employee empowerment and cross-functional collaboration. SABIC also regularly obtains feedback from managers and employees on development needs, and implements relevant training to match the developmental needs of its workforce.
